When I was in the fourth grade, I loved collecting and trading baseball cards. Growing up on a farm in a rural community in eastern North Carolina, there were only four kids who had an interest in trading cards. The pickings were slim.
A few years later, I setup a vegetable stand at the end of the driveway and had to try and convince one of the ten cars that passed by each day to stop and buy a watermelon or beans.
Most of my career as a financial advisor was set in a small territory or a three or four county radius. Although a bigger lot to choose from compared to my veggie and fruit selling days, it still felt like I was running out of people to meet with.
Fast forward to 2019 and the internet provides endless possibilities of reaching people all over the world and making money. All you really need is a laptop, internet connection and your phone.
There are many ways to make money online. You can set up an Etsy or Shopify store and take a hobby and turn it into an income producer by selling your wares all over the world. You can use your laptop to record an online course and sell it on Teachable or Udemy or Skill Share. There is also Amazon FBA or retail arbitrage. People are earning commissions by selling someone else’s product (affiliate marketing). Showcase your past time or hobby on YouTube. Start shooting videos, build up your channel and start running ads to earn money. Monetize your blog. I could go on and on.
The fact of the matter is today there are a large number of folks making their living from their laptop. They’ve left their 9-5 job and are now working from home, from the beach, from a café in Paris or from a hammock in an exotic location.
How do you go about finding out how to do any of the items that I mentioned above? YouTube of course. Heck, millions are already using YouTube in multiple different ways so why not turn to it to help educate you on making money online. Now be careful of the “promises” because you’re not going to make a million dollars overnight. If anyone leads with those promises, step away quickly. Like anything else, it takes time to build. However, if you’re looking for your freedom, an online business might be your ticket out of the rat race.
Three years ago, I knew very little about online businesses. Now at age 50, I have one online business and am getting ready to start another one. No longer are you bound to a brick and mortar job or business.
You’re only limited by your imagination and your commitment to the lifestyle you desire.
Gaining the knowledge is the easy part because you can find it for free online. Having the confidence to actually do it is the hard part for most folks. However, if your freedom is important to you, you’ll put in the work and make it happen.
What are you waiting for?
