Take your life off autopilot and start living the life you want to live. What’s it going to take to get you to wake up? How many excuses and obstacles are you going to put in front of yourself to delay the freedom you really want?
There are signs all around us reminding us that life is uncertain, but we’re often too busy or not paying attention to pick up on them.
Last Friday I attended the funeral service of a 63-year-old friend of mine. Cancer took his life way too soon. He left behind a young wife and a 17-year-old daughter.
A couple of years ago, a talented financial advisor I knew committed suicide at age 40 after losing his family and his job. Spent his life striving to be perfect for everyone else and lost himself somewhere along the way.
My son’s art teacher had a major stroke in her mid-40’s. A beautiful, extremely healthy and talented woman who survived but will never fully recover.
These were just a few of the signs I saw that again reminded me that life is precious, life can be short, and I need to get on living.
Life isn’t always short. But it does fly by quickly. When my daughter was born 20 years ago, I was told “the days and weeks are going to be long, but the years will fly by.” Boy, that was the truth. If you think about it, that’s life itself. The days and weeks start blending together and the years do fly by. If you don’t wake up, next thing you know you’re going to be 65 years old wondering where time went.
There are a lot of us that have been awaken, jolted out of the normal track of living life and aware enough to make changes and redirect our course. For many of us it took a death of a friend or family member, a near death experience or some other event that took us off autopilot. Others have been awake, aware and mindful their entire lives, knowing exactly what they want and striving find it.
If you’re living your best life, Congratulations!
If you’re like the millions of worker bees out there just going through the motions but yearn to have your freedom and wish you could take more control of your life, why not start now? It’s time to wake the hell up. Nobody is coming to save you. It’s your life and it’s time for you to take over the controls and point yourself in the direction you seek to go. Your time is running out. If you don’t start taking steps today, when will you? Next year? Ten years from now? Be careful not to stay in that perpetual state of “about to”. You don’t have time to waste. None of us do.
If you’re 50 years old, based on life expectancy of 78-year-old, you have 10,000 days left in your life. How are you going to spend them?
Freedom can be earned. Freedom can be lost. Freedom can be free, or it can come at a price. However, freedom is best taken and seized. It’s there for you when you’re awake enough to enjoy it.
